Services

Heritage Maritime offers top quality services in marine operations and maritime consulting at competitive rates.

  • Marine Operations

We have available a limited number of highly selected officers for short or long term assignment.  Should we be unable to provide our "own" people, we will refer you to a reliable crewing company.

We undertake deliveries on a time available basis--our officers take great pride in delivering vessels efficiently and ending the delivery with a vessel in better condition than when accepted.

Because of the exceptional experience levels of our officers, owner training and the development and training of professional crews has proven a very popular service.  Call us for details.

We have truly exceptional depth and breadth of knowledge and experience in Alaskan waters, throughout the year.

  • Marine Consulting

Vessel Acquisitions:  we have developed methodical techniques for mission-specific analysis of owner needs, resulting in both cost reductions and greater owner satisfaction.  This set of techniques has been applied successfully to newbuildings, used vessel purchases, leases, and charters.

Vessel Modifications and Refits:  few owners have sufficient knowledge and experience to successfully manage shipyard contracting.  We provide expertise in contract development and management over a wide range of projects, including design, specification, scope limits, costing, and contract management.

Vessel Outfitting:  this area is often overlooked when acquiring or refitting a vessel, and may entail a great deal of unplanned expense.  We can assist you in ensuring that safety equipment, electronics, deck machinery, rigging, galley equipment, and the many other items required for a properly outfitted boat are appropriate for the intended missions.

Troubleshooting:  owners or agents who are experiencing unforseen difficulties, whether operational or with project management, are encouraged to call.

Security Consulting:  specialist consulting with regard to vessel and personal security.

  • FAQs
    How expensive is Heritage Maritime?

Rates vary with the nature of the work, specialists required, and location.  Initial consultation is free, and it is usually feasible to quickly arrive at a cost structure.

    Is Heritage Maritime a Brokerage?

No.  We work with certain brokers for various purposes (owner training or deliveries for example), but we are extremely careful to avoid conflicts of interest.

How Does Heritage Maritime Differ from a Naval Architecture Firm?

While we often work with carefully selected naval architects, we are more broadly based.  On a timeline, our heaviest involvement is both before and then after work by a naval architect.  For example, for a newbuilding we would first determine requirements based on mission, assist with selecting a naval architect, work with the naval architect to ensure proper "targeting" of work, assist with contract development, outfitting, crew selection and development, and final debugging.  Our focus is to ensure that the owner has the best possible chance of getting a vessel that is satisfactory when actually at sea.

What is Meant by "Mission Definition?"

Vessel acquisitions and refits should always be mission driven:  that is, what do you want to do, where do you want to do it, with how many people, what level of amenities do you want, and so forth.  This concept is critically important and is often done poorly--failure to properly define mission is the most common mistake made by vessel buyers.  It is also much more difficult than it appears at first glance, requiring extensive operational experience on a variety of vessels to do properly.

How Flexible is Heritage Maritime with Regard to Level of Involvvement?

Very.  Some owners/charterers are more expert than others in various areas, and we can tailor our level of involvement accordingly.

Is Heritage Maritime Only Appropriate for Large Vessels?

No.  Since even relativley small vessels can involve a substantial investment, several owners of such vessels have found it cost-effective to use our services.

How Do I Know that Heritage Maritime is the Right Choice for My Purposes?

Call us or email.  We live by our reputation and have no desire to take on work that we can't do well.  We regularly turn down work for a variety of reasons, including scheduling conflicts, proposed work that is outside our areas of core competence, or simply a poor "fit".  We take our commitment to providing quality services so seriously that we won't accept work if we believe that the proposed work would not be cost-effective for the client.
